Carlos Alcaraz struggled a bit in the third round but proved why he is the No.1 seed at Wimbledon this year. He defeated number 25 Nicolás Jarry in four sets, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 7-5.

After winning the first set, Alcaraz had to fight 2-4 in the second set to force a tiebreaker. Jarry won it, but Alcaraz easily won the last two sets to qualify.

While an American favorite lost, an underdog pulled off another incredible upset.

Tommy Paul, the No. 16 seed, fell to unranked Jiri Lehecka in five sets. Paul lost the first set, lost a tie-break in the second but gutted a third tie-break victory to force a fourth. Lehecka double faulted when it was 5-3 to open the door for Paul to win the tiebreaker. Paul earned another tiebreaker in the critical fourth set which included 20 points after leading 6-2, then losing 7-8, then winning 11-9. But Paul couldn’t get the fifth victory over Lehecka and lost, 2-6, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (11-9), 2- 6.

Meanwhile, Christopher Eubanks – a day after his shock victory over No 12 Cameron Norrie – beat Australian Christopher O’Connell in a three-set home-and-away match. Eubanks won all three sets in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (6-2).
