Atlanta police investigate downtown shooting

Amid storms, flash floods, fallen trees and a few fires in the metro area, police responded to weather needs and calls for help.

Atlanta police are investigating a shooting that injured a 37-year-old man while he was downtown Friday night.

According to a police statement, officers responded to an address on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, where they found the male victim with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance, but he was alert, conscious and breathing.

The victim has not been identified by the police.

Officers’ preliminary investigation determined that the victim was standing outside when an unknown person approached him and opened fire.

Investigators do not yet know the circumstances of the incident.

The shooting remains under investigation.
