Arguments begin in rape trial of prominent Boston attorney

Closing arguments are set to begin in the rape trial of a prominent Boston attorney. Gary Zerola was once named to People magazine’s Top 50 Singles, but over the past decade he has faced numerous sexual assault allegations.

Zerola is currently on trial, facing two counts of rape, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Zerola never testified during the trial.

The current defense attorney was a former Suffolk and Essex county prosecutor. Her high profile status – according to the victim – was one of the reasons she did not turn herself in immediately to the police.

Zerola was 45 when he reportedly dated the 23-year-old victim and her friend in November 2016. After a night of drinking, they returned to a friend’s apartment and that’s where the alleged rape took place. is produced. .

From day one, the defense portrayed the victim as a liar, saying she kept changing her story and even kissed Zerola earlier that night. The prosecution claims the victim never consented to Zerola’s advances and acted as normal as possible as there was nothing she could do at the time.

The victim testified that she didn’t report the incident to the police until a few days later because she was too scared saying that Zerola made it clear that he was a well-known attorney in Boston.

The jury will hear closing arguments from the prosecution and defense later this morning. The jury could begin deliberations soon after.
