Trump says 2024 running mate could be one of his main opponents

In a new interview, former President Trump said he would consider some of his top 2024 GOP rivals as potential running mates or Cabinet members if he wins back the White House.

Trump on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” singled out entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Sen. Tim Scott (RS.C.) for their praise, though he didn’t specify who he would consider running mate.

“I think Vivek has done a really good job, frankly. I think others have done a great job,” Trump said.

Asked by host Maria Bartiromo if his running mate might be among those in the 2024 field, Trump replied, “Maybe.”

“Actually, you have good people on stage. I think you have some very talented people,” Trump said. “I was impressed by some of them. I’m good friends with some of them, actually.

“I think you have good potential Cabinet members as well,” Trump added.

Bartiromo also asked if Scott was among those Trump would consider.

“I think he’s a really good guy. We’ve done Opportunity Zones together…Tim’s really good,” Trump said. “I mean, I could see Tim doing something with the administration, but he’s currently campaigning, and I’m sure Tim and everyone else would say I’m only interested in one, but Tim is a very talented guy and you have other very talented people.

Trump has consistently held a large lead in national GOP primary polls with the Iowa caucuses about six months away.

A Morning Consult poll released last week showed Trump at 56%, 39 points ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), who was at 17%. Ramaswamy voted 8%, followed by former Vice President Mike Pence at 7%.

Conservative commentator Glenn Beck during a panel on the sidelines of an Iowa gospel event on Friday predicted that Trump would choose Ramaswamy as his running mate.
