Eagles 2023 roster cuts: Tracking the roster moves to 53 originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
The Eagles have until 4 p.m. on Tuesday to cut their roster from 90 to 53 players.
This won’t be the final 53-man roster. But it’s a starting point. Many of the players who are cut will end up on the 16-man practice squad.
We’ll be tracking all the cuts here:
TE Tyree Jackson: The 6-foot-7 former college quarterback has been an intriguing prospect for years now but he won’t make the initial 53-man roster. It appears that the Eagles will run back the tight end trio of Dallas Goedert, Jack Stoll and Grant Calcaterra for another season. (NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero)
TE Dan Arnold: The Eagles are waiving the veteran tight end. Arnold is a veteran but he was buried on the depth chart and didn’t do enough to separate this summer. (NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero)
QB Ian Book: After the Eagles drafted Tanner McKee in the sixth round, Book was fighting an uphill battle to make the roster. And then McKee outperformed him by a wide margin in training camp and the preseason. Book joined the Eagles after final cuts last season but he’s being released by them this year. (NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport)
OT Dennis Kelly: The Eagles brought back Kelly this summer to bolster their tackle depth but he didn’t have a very good summer and ended up as a third-teamer. (Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane)
OL Brett Toth: The Eagles tried to play Toth as their second-team center this summer but he really struggled to snap the ball. That prompted the Eagles to bring in Josh Andrews and pushed Toth to the third unit and eventually off the roster. (Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane)
OL Josh Andrews: When Toth struggled early in camp, the Eagles added the veteran Andrews and at least he settled things on the second team. But there were better options for the roster. (Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane)
WR Johnny King: The 6-foot-5 receiver joined camp late after being cut by the Colts but did some nice things in his short time. Making the roster was never really on the table. (Inside the Birds’ Andrew DiCecco)
OG Tyrese Robinson: This one isn’t much of a surprise. Robinson was buried at third-team guard all camp. (Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane)
OL Cameron Tom: The versatile inside lineman played guard and center in training camp. He was on the practice squad last year. (NJ.com’s Chris Franklin)
WR Deon Cain: The Eagles are releasing Cain for the second year in a row at final cuts. Cain had some good moments this summer but didn’t have the same hype in 2023 as he did in 2022. (Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane)
