The Washington Post explains the real danger of Ron DeSantis’ forgiveness speech

The Washington Post editorial board called out Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (right) on Thursday for not ruling out a pardon from Jan. 6 rioters and even former President Donald Trump.

The move showed that DeSantis, who officially entered the 2024 presidential race on Wednesday, presents himself “as an echo rather than an alternative” to Trump, the newspaper said.

“Floating pardons give the Jan. 6 rioters hope that they will not be held accountable,” the council warned, saying it would “discourage plea deals and encourage defendants to drag out proceedings in court.” ‘hope to obtain clemency in 20 months’.

“It also increases the danger that people will again indulge in violence if they don’t like the outcome of next year’s election, calculating that they could be pardoned if their favorite candidate takes power,” he added.
