The CMPD is investigating the assault of a one-year-old child.

Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Central Division are investigating after officers were called to the scene of an assault on a child near the intersection of West Summit Ave. and South Tryon St. Sunday morning.

According to the CMPD, the mother of the victim reported that her one-year-old child was punched in the face by an unknown person.

Officers were able to quickly locate the suspect with the help of witnesses and bystanders.

Rico Limon Williams has been taken into custody and charged with assaulting a child under 12.

The one-year-old was taken to Levine Children’s Hospital where the child was treated and released.
