Prattville police investigate first homicide of 2023

PRATTVILLE — Police in Prattville are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after a Sunday afternoon shooting.

Police Chief Mark Thompson said officers were sent to Covered Bridge Parkway about 2:15 p.m. after receiving a call that gunshots had been fired. They found a man in the street, dead of an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene, said Coroner Buster Barber.

Covered Bridge Parkway is in east Prattville, off Fairview Avenue.

The victim’s name was not released pending notification of family, Thompson said.

He declined to release more information Sunday afternoon, given the ongoing nature of the investigation.
