‘Number’ of people injured after gunshots erupt near crowded Hollywood beach on Remembrance Day

A Monday night shooting near the beach at Hollywood Broadwalk left “a number” of people hospitalized with injuries, officials said.

The number of people injured in the incident at around 6:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Broadwalk, adjacent to the Hollywood Beach Theater, has not yet been confirmed, according to city spokesman Raelin Storey. But initial police scanner reports indicated seven.

Authorities took the victims to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Storey could not immediately comment on their condition.

On his Twitter page, Hollywood police asked people to avoid going anywhere near Johnson at Garfield Streets, as well as the Broadwalk, due to “an ongoing shooting investigation.”

“Strong police presence in the neighborhood. If you are looking to reunite with a family member, we have set up a gathering area at the Johnson St and N Ocean bus loop,” the tweet read.

“The police are controlling the scene. I don’t think there’s a permanent threat, but it’s obviously one of those situations where it’s probably best to leave the area and go home and not be in that area at the time added Storey.

This is a developing story and will be updated briefly.
