Quavo and Offset teamed up for a Migos reunion at the BET Awards, and it was an emotional comeback.
The rappers, who formed the influential Atlanta rap group with the late rapper Takeoff, took the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday for a tribute to their former bandmate, who died in November.
Quavo and Offset kicked off their BET number with a performance of “Hotel Lobby,” growling together on stage before an enlarged image of Takeoff was revealed on the screen behind them. The rappers then launched into the band’s signature hit “Bad and Boujee” as pyrotechnics blazed on stage.
Sunday night marked the first time the two had performed together since Takeoff’s death.
Fans have taken to social media to express their joy at seeing the Migos rappers on stage together again.
“Offset and Quavo reunite for Takeoff is the best thing ever,user @updatesofcardi wrote on Twitter.
“Quavo and Offset perform together again. This is what we needed,” tweeted user @leesogolden.
“Quavo and offset playing together moves me,user @Cloud9inedreams wrote on Twitter.
Quavo and Offset also shared the performance on social media. “For The Rocket ❤️🩹🚀,” Quavo wrote in a post. In another, he captioned photos of him and Offset from the performance with, “Do this for the family because this shhh is bigger than me!”
Offset posted a video with the same caption.
Born Kirsnik Khari Ball, Takeoff died Nov. 1 after being shot as more than 30 people left a private party at a bowling alley in Houston. Police said the shots followed a disagreement over a “lucrative” dice game, but Takeoff was not involved and was an “innocent bystander”. His mother now pursues bowling.
The three Migos members grew up together in the Atlanta area, with Quavo and Takeoff sharing a family bond and close friend Offset joining the duo as teenagers. Quavo said he and Takeoff “hated the word nephew” because they felt their relationship was closer.
Quavo and Offset reunited earlier this week to celebrate what would have been Takeoff’s 29th birthday on June 18. Quavo posted a series of photos to Instagram on Monday as his family members gathered to visit a Takeoff mural and wore shirts with the late rapper’s photo. Offset was included in one of the group photos.
“EVERYTHING to TAKE!” Quavo captioned the post.
