When the Cubs stop short Dansby Swanson retired from this year’s All-Star Game, he left a spot on the court for Francois Lindor be chosen to replace him. Diamondbacks Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo was chosen instead.

As a reminder, the starters of each league are chosen by fan votes. Lindor was selected as a finalist for the starting National League shortstop position, but was ultimately defeated by Atlanta Orlando Arcia.

Reserves and pitchers are selected by a combination of a player ballot and the commissioner’s office. Swanson made the team via player vote and according to Athletic’s Ken RosenthalPerdomo also earned its place through player voting.

Perdomo, 23, is having a career year in the desert, slashing .274/.381/.797 with five home runs and 33 RBIs. He is in the top five of all walk shortstops and top 10 in stolen bases. Once he qualifies, he’ll likely be in the top five in batting average, OBP, and OPS among shortstops.

Lindor, despite not having a career season, is having a very productive year for the Mets. The 29-year-old is cutting .233/.316/.788 with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs. He leads all shortstops in home runs, RBIs and runs and ranks top five in doubles, walk, slugging and OPS.

Food Manager Buck Showalter Before Friday’s game, he was asked if he was surprised that Lindor hadn’t been selected and he replied: “I’m not going to evaluate anyone else’s players. I know our guy has a very worthy [year]. The same goes for others.

Ironically, Lindor and Perdomo were opposites in this previous series earlier in the week.

Over the three-game series, Lindor went 6-for-12 with a home run and had his first career five-hit game on Thursday. Perdomo went 1 for 11, even though he was in the lineup when Kodai Senga And Carlos Carrasco have their best starts of the season.

It’s not the end of the road for Lindor’s All-Star chances. If there is an injury or another infielder withdraws from the Midsummer Classic, Lindor could be selected as a replacement. The same can be said for other Mets like Brandon Nimmo Or David Robertson.

Currently first baseman Pete Alonso is the only player representing the Mets at the 2023 All-Star Game.

The 2023 All-Star Game will take place in Seattle this year and will take place on Tuesday, July 11.
