Co-created by The Weeknd and Euphoriait’s Sam Levinson, The idol had its world premiere last week at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a standard five-minute ovation from the audience, but was later dismissed by largely negative early reviews. The musical drama, billed as “the most sordid love story in all of Hollywood,” will be available to stream on HBO Max – now known as Max after a recent name change – on June 4.
