Kerr admits he ‘failed’ to connect Warriors last season, originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
For most of the 2022-23 NBA season, the Warriors were anything but cohesive as a team.
From a preseason altercation between teammates that shook the heart of the organization to a slew of premature injuries and an ugly 11-30 road record, Golden State was scrappy from the start and Warriors coach Steve Kerr takes the blame.
During a recent chat with Shayna Rubin of The Mercury News, Kerr discussed a personal training goal he has for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
“I will say that I feel like I failed last year to connect the band,” Kerr said. “I took a lot of time this summer to reflect on last year, the things I could and should have done differently. I truly believe that sometimes losing forces you to re-evaluate and re-evaluate and I’m excited to come back next year with renewed focus, energy and spirit from the whole group. And it starts with me and I can’t wait.
The Warriors’ turbulent season was the result of a number of things, including Draymond Green hitting Jordan Poole during pre-season practice, which the veteran forward admitted played a role in the team’s early season struggles.

Golden State has since traded Poole to the Washington Wizards in exchange for veteran guard Chris Paul, a Warriors villain for years with a rocky relationship with Green, who hasn’t been shy about voicing his opinion on the 38-year-old.
If the Warriors want to improve their team chemistry this season, it looks like Kerr still has some work to do.
