As the former TLC star opens up about mending his “alienated” relationship with his kids, he confesses to PEOPLE, “I can’t put all my eggs in one basket like I used to, and then get upset about it”

Jon Gosselin says he attended some of his eight children’s graduations, but not all.
By attending Kickz for Kids, a charity tour created by billionaire philanthropist Patrick Carroll, Gosselin opened up to PEOPLE about what his kids are up to now and how he feels about being estranged from six of his kids.
“I had eight diplomas this year”, the former Jon & Kate More 8 star, 46, tells PEOPLE. “I only participated in one. The only kids I see and talk to are Hannah [Gosselin] and colin [Gosselin]. So I was quite far from Mady [Gosselin] and Kara [Gosselin] for nine years.

Twin sisters Mady and Cara, 22, have just graduated from college. The other children – the sextuplets of Jon and his ex-wife Kate Gosselin – have graduated from high school.
Jon says four of the children – Aaden, Leah, Joel and Alexis Gosselin, all 19 – live with their mother. However, he is still actively involved in Hannah and Collin’s lives.
Speaking about his estrangement from other children, Jon says: “At first it was very difficult, but now it’s, you know, you’re hoping for the best, but you don’t dwell on it, you see what I means?”
He adds: “Maybe we will develop a relationship in the future, but yes. I can’t put all my eggs in one basket like I used to and then get upset about it.

Jon’s personal life includes his DJ career and a former long-term public relationship. He dated Colleen Conrad for seven years before calling it quits in 2021. As for his relationship with ex-wife Kate, Jon says, “I haven’t spoken to Kate in years.”
According to Jon, he and Kate attended the same high school graduation for their children, although they did not cross paths.
“Hannah invited Kate and…we saw each other, but there was a whole football field between us,” Jon says. “I spoke to Hannah and Collin before graduation to make sure it was going to be cordial.”

Jon’s attendance at the New York event supported the sneaker donation to Madison Garden Boys & Girls Club in New York City in Carrol’s quest to provide $1 million worth of sneakers to children across America.
