Jennifer Garner Defines Elektra’s Return After Nearly 20 Years in ‘Deadpool 3’

Playing an inevitable “sai-ke” pun for Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner is set to reprise her role as sai-wielding superhero Elektra in Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool 3.”

Hugh Jackman also reprises his performance as Wolverine for the film, which quickly becomes a multiverse mash-up of characters from past non-MCU Marvel films. Garner first originated the role of Elektra Natchios in 2003’s “Daredevil” with Ben Affleck, which was a modest success, and returned to 2005’s title track, which failed.

In 2021, Garner told The Hollywood Reporter that she wishes both of these films were produced by Kevin Feige as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It’s such a shame, honestly, because once Kevin took over everything, there was an elevation: the writing, the directing, the comedy inside the stories they were telling,” he said. she declared. “And I haven’t had that experience.” Most recently, Garner starred in and produced “The Last Thing He Told Me” limited series for Apple TV+.

Shawn Levy, who just directed Reynolds and Garner in 2022’s “The Adam Project,” is directing the film, from a script by franchise mainstays Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Matthew Macfadyen (“Succession”) also joins the cast, and Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand and Leslie Uggams return from the previous two “Deadpool” movies, which were made by 20th Century Fox before Disney acquired the studio. . “Deadpool 3” will also be Marvel Studios’ first R-rated feature, in keeping with the franchise’s DGAF approach to superhero storytelling. It is currently scheduled to open on May 3, 2024.
