Homicide investigation begins after man found dead in water

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a man found floating in the water at Belle Fontaine beach near the St. Andrews community.

Sheriff John Ledbetter says a boater spotted the body about 12:30 p.m. about three-quarters of a mile offshore.

Deputies, assisted by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, recovered the unidentified man.

The cause of death is unknown at the time, and the case is being treated as a homicide.
