HBO, ‘The Bear’ Top TV Critics’ Picks – See the Full List

Fresh off of a record-breaking second season opener, “The Bear” is celebrating more good news. The FX on Hulu series leads the 2023 Television Critics Association Awards nominations announced Friday, tied with HBO hits “Succession” and “The Last of Us” for five nods apiece.

Voted for by more than 200 professional journalists from the United States and Canada, each covering television, the 39th Annual TCA Awards will highlight outstanding performances, series, creators and stars spanning all genres and platforms. The upcoming ceremony will announce the winners of 14 categories recognizing outstanding achievement in theatre; Comedy; mini-series; News and information; Reality; Variety, sketch or talk shows, and more, including the all-new Outstanding Achievement In Children’s Programming, which rewards programming for children seven and under; and Outstanding Achievement In Family Programming, which recognizes shows created for young people age seven and older.

The combination of HBO and Max leads the nominations overall for the second consecutive season, with 20, including the two aforementioned series entering the Most Coveted Program of the Year category alongside “Andor”, “Better Call Saul “, “Poker Face”, “The Bear”, “The Other Two”, “The White Lotus” and last year’s big winner “Abbott Elementary”.

“The 2023 nominees for the TCA Awards offer an eclectic lineup from across the entertainment spectrum,” said Melanie McFarland, TCA President and TV Critic for Salon.com, in a statement accompanying the nominations announcement. “This season truly had something for everyone, from innovative comedies and gripping dramas, to immersive documentaries and refreshing cerebral storytelling set in a galaxy far, far away. I can’t wait to see which stars and series our members have chosen to honor when the winners are revealed.
