Finn Wolfhard sees the final season of Stranger Things as a “diploma” for the cast

Finn Wolfhard has mixed emotions about the end of stranger things, which will conclude with the fifth and final season. On the one hand, he says: “I am definitely delighted to finish stranger things and see what’s next.” On the other hand, the actor, 20, says he tried not to think about the sadness of saying goodbye.

“I’ve tried not to think about it or understand how sad it’s going to be, obviously, but it’s going to be kind of a graduation for all of us, for the cast and a lot of the crew as well,” said Wolfhard told EW in an interview marking his induction into Sony’s PlayStation Playmakers program.

He made his acting debut stranger things alongside Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin, all of whom grew up on screen as the series progressed. “Much of the same team worked on [the show] since season one,” Wolfhard also notes. “So it’s going to be amazing and pretty heavy, but really fun, still.”

Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of stranger things, announced in May that it was not possible for the Netflix series to film the final season while the Hollywood writers’ strike is still ongoing. Wolfhard, who has played Mike Wheeler on the show from the start, agrees, “We’re hitting pause until the hit is resolved.”

“I think I’m really looking forward to getting started because I’m a fan of the show first and foremost,” he adds. “So I’m excited, obviously, to see where each character’s journey takes them and all that stuff.”

Now that Wolfhard is part of PlayStation Playmakers, a group of famous PlayStation fans (including LeBron James), he jokes that he’ll have a lot more time to catch up on video games while he waits for a resolution for the strike.

“There’s a crazy amount I haven’t played lately,” he says.
