A drowning on Saturday at Milan Beach claimed the life of a Toledo resident.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 6:02 p.m. Saturday to Milan Beach, 16339 Cone Road in Milan Township, a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said. A 23-year-old resident of Toledo reportedly disappeared under water. People at the beach continued to search for the victim as deputies responded to the scene.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded to the scene and began efforts to locate the victim underwater, the statement said. The victim was recovered from the water shortly after 8 p.m. and pronounced dead.

The identity of the victim was not immediately revealed.

Just over a year ago, there was a drowning at Milan Beach when a 45-year-old man from Toledo died on Memorial Day 2022.

Saturday’s drowning is still under investigation by Uniformed Services Division Deputy Jack Hall.

Milan Township Fire Department, Dundee Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance responded to the scene, along with Dundee Police Department, Milan Police Department and officers Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Authority.
