CP3’s straight answer regarding the Warriors role he will play

CP3’s candid response regarding the Warriors role he will play originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Chris Paul has one thing in mind for the 2023-24 NBA season: Winning.

In an interview with Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer, the 38-year-old gave a very direct answer when asked what his role will be with the Warriors this season.

“To help us win games,” Paul told Fowler (h/t Bleacher Report).

Since arriving at Golden State in the blockbuster trade that saw Jordan Poole head to the Washington Wizards, Paul has been tight-lipped about what his role will be with the Warriors.

During the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Paul brushed aside any talk of his potential coming off the bench during his introductory press conference.

“Uh… do you coach? Paul responded in response after being asked his thoughts on the direction of the Warriors’ bench.

Since being drafted No. 4 overall by the New Orleans Hornets in 2005, Paul has played and started in all 1,363 games he has played. With Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green firmly entrenched in four of the five starting spots, it seems more than likely that Paul will come off the bench.

For his part, the 12-time All-Star reportedly told the Warriors he would do whatever it takes to win, even if it means adopting Golden State’s frenetic style of play.

Whatever Paul’s role with the Warriors, his new teammates are already planning what kind of impact he will have at Golden State.

While there are questions about exactly how Paul will fit in with the Warriors, Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole that Paul “connects” many Golden State rotations and will only help the team with his versatility.

Green also said he’s looking forward to playing alongside him and having conversations with a “grown up” like Paul, especially since they’re both willing to do whatever it takes to win.

As the 2023-24 season draws closer, any questions Warriors fans will have regarding Paul’s place with Golden State will soon be answered.

Until then, let all the speculation run wild as long as it only leads to one thing: Winning.
