Court documents Haledon’s fatal stabbing scene in detail

Police documents describe a chaotic scene on the streets of Haledon following a fatal stabbing earlier this week which led to a murder charge.

Jamilette Huaranga, 21, allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old man with a knife during an argument Wednesday near his home on Lee Avenue, prosecutors said. The victim had multiple stab wounds to the shoulder and thigh, according to a probable cause affidavit. The man, identified only by his initials in the affidavit, died of his injuries at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.

As she was covered in blood, Huaranga waved to a nearby driver and told him she had stabbed her boyfriend and should call 911, according to the affidavit. A neighbor overheard and let Huaranga use his phone to call his mother. During that conversation, he overheard Huaranga telling him she was going to jail, according to the affidavit.

Surveillance footage showed the victim had left the Lee Avenue home at the time of the murder to move an SUV to the end of the driveway, the affidavit said. Huaranga is also seen walking outside with a large kitchen knife before the victim goes inside, according to the affidavit, and is later seen walking away with the knife and a dark stain on her pants.

Besides first degree murder, Huaranga was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
