Biden to announce $600 million in climate investments during California trip

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Joe Biden will travel to Palo Alto, California on Monday and announce more than $600 million in climate investments to help the country’s coastal communities fight climate change, an official said on Sunday. of the White House.

The investments will be funded by Biden’s climate and infrastructure bills and will include a $575 million project to combat rising sea levels, storm surges and tidal hurricanes, the official said, who did not wish to be named.

It will also include a $67 million investment for California to upgrade its electrical grid to reduce the impact of extreme weather events such as wildfires.

Biden signed a $430 billion bill last August billed as the biggest climate package in US history.

The president’s trip to California will also see him raise campaign funds from tech and climate donors as he races to raise more than $1 billion for his re-election fight.
