actions speak louder than words – US State Department

The United States does not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin, no matter what he says, is truly open to peace talks to end the war in Ukraine, as he continues to bomb towns and civilians.

Source: This was announced during a briefing on Wednesday June 21 by Vedant Patel, deputy spokesperson for the US State Department, European Pravda reports.

Details: During the briefing, the State Department spokesperson was asked about the visit of African leaders to Ukraine and Russia, as well as a statement made by Putin during a meeting with them during which he said Moscow had not refused to engage in peace talks.

Quote: “Russia continues to show no significant interest in ending this war, which is evident from the fact that African leaders spent hours in bomb shelters while Russia continued to bomb Ukraine during their visit,” Patel said.

Patel pointed out that in this case “actions speak louder than words”.

“President Putin says a lot of things, I leave it to you to interpret how many of them are true or not. Again, it’s pretty clear in Russia’s actions – bombing Kyiv, targeting civilian infrastructure , targeting energy infrastructure, targeting apartment buildings, targeting hospitals – that they show no meaningful interest in determining peace and ending this war,” the State Department representative added.

During a meeting with the delegation of African leaders on Saturday June 17, the Russian president declared that Ukraine, not Russia, was abandoning “peace negotiations”.

Putin even showed African leaders an initialed draft agreement with Ukraine that was prepared in Istanbul in March 2022, ignoring the fact that delegations from both sides were not authorized to conclude such an agreement.
