A child was killed Monday in what is believed to be an accidental shooting, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said.

At about noon, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the 1200 block of Rabon Pond Drive, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s in Columbia, bear Two Notch Road and Sesquicentennial State Park.

When deputies arrived, they found a 7-year-old girl who had been shot in the upper body, according to the release.

The child was taken to an area hospital where she died from her injuries, the sheriff’s department said.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the child.
