Police search for driver who killed man in Los Angeles hit-and-run

Los Angeles police are looking for the driver of an SUV that fatally struck a man in North Hollywood early Monday.

What happened: The small light blue SUV was said to have been traveling east on Sherman Way around 1 a.m. when it struck the man, who was said to have been walking outside a crosswalk on Sherman Way, west of Bellaire Avenue. The driver then pulled over in the parking lot of a shopping center on Sherman Way before fleeing in a westerly direction.

The following : The paramedics intervened but the man could not be saved. He died at the scene.

About the victim: The victim was not identified on Wednesday. Police described him as an Asian male between 35 and 40 years old.

What the police say: Authorities said the driver of the SUV failed to stop, identify himself or render assistance after the collision. They are also looking for the driver of a white van that parked in the mall parking lot as they may be a witness.

Drivers who are involved in a collision are reminded to pull over and stop as soon as it is safe, notify emergency services and remain at the scene to identify themselves. Pedestrians, meanwhile, are urged to exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights and cross inside marked crosswalks.
