The Mets announced on Friday that they had traded their infielder Eduardo Escobar.

New York sent Escobar and cash consideration to Los Angeles Angels for right-handed pitchers Coleman’s Crow And Landon Marcaux.

The Mets pay all of Escobar’s salary (except the required minimum) in order to get the prospects they wanted, according to SNY’s Andy Martino.

Escobar signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Mets ahead of the 2022 season. Both seasons have been tough for the veteran Queens infielder. In 2022, Escobar hit .240 with 20 home runs and 69 RBIs. Many Mets fans will remember “Escobar’s month” in September when he cut .340/.393/.649 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs in 26 games.

In 2023, Escobar struggled through the door and eventually lost his day job to the rookie Brett Baty. In 110 at-bats, Escobar reduced .236/.286/.695 with four home runs and 16 RBIs.

The trade took place during the Mets-Phillies series opener, and Francois Lindor was asked about it when he was mic for the show.

“He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had,” he said. “He will be greatly missed.”
