Woman and boyfriend shot while inside vehicle in Sacramento County

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Detectives were investigating a shooting Thursday afternoon in which a woman and her boyfriend were hit by gunfire while in their vehicle.

The shooting was reported around 12:30 p.m. and investigators believe the shots were fired in the area of ​​Watt Avenue and Lerwick Road in Arden Arcade.

The woman was driving the vehicle. The couple told investigators they were driving through parking lots in the area, looking for a spot with an air pump to fill their vehicle’s tires, Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesman for the sheriff.

The couple were approached by a man who was walking in the area. Gandhi said there was a verbal exchange between the couple and the man, before the man fired into their vehicle.

The woman drove herself and her boyfriend – both with gunshot wounds – to hospital. Gandhi said the two victims of the shootings must survive.

Investigators had no suspicious information to disclose.

The sheriff’s office was also investigating three other shootings in which four people were hit by gunfire, two of whom died from their injuries.

Late Wednesday, an 18-year-old student from Grant Union High School was killed the day before his graduation. He was inside a vehicle with two other people at an undisclosed location in the North Highlands when someone approached and fired into the vehicle from the passenger side, hitting the teenager in the leg. He later died in a hospital.

A homeless man was hit by stray gunfire around 1.15am near Watt Avenue and Elverta Road in Antelope. Gunshots from an apparent car-to-car shootout hit the innocent bystander, who was taken to hospital and expected to survive.

A 56-year-old man died and a 49-year-old man was injured after shooting himself during an argument early Thursday at an apartment in the 7400 block of Stockton Boulevard in south Sacramento. Sheriff officials said the men appeared to have been acquaintances. The man who survived the shooting was listed in a stable condition in a hospital.
