Two arrests in unrelated shots-fired incidents Tuesday night in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Lafayette police investigated two unrelated incidents in which shots were fired Tuesday night, resulting in one arrest in each case.

About 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Laron Ramon Hudson, 22, of Lafayette, argued with someone in the 700 block of Olivia Place in Overlook Pointe Apartments, police said.

Several shots were fired during the argument, and a vehicle and apartment were struck by bullets, police said. However, no one was injured.

Police searched an apartment in the area and located two handguns that might be tied to the shots fired, police said.

Officers jailed Hudson on suspicion of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, police said.

About three hours after the shots fired at Overlook Pointe Apartments, officers were summoned to the 2800 block of Ashford Court in the former Cambridge Estate Apartments with a report of shots fired.

Officers said about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Tyree Anthony Thompson, 31, of Lafayette, fired several shots into the air, according to witnesses’ statements to police.

Witnesses said Thompson was sitting in a car in the apartment complex. Officers found him with a handgun, police said.

Officers jailed Thompson on suspicion of criminal recklessness, criminal trespass and sexual battery.

The sexual battery allegation stems from Thompson allegedly touching a woman and happened just before the shots were fired, police said.
