Within the 2016 Tamil Nadu Meeting election, P Vetrivel of the AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) gained the Perambur seat. He gained 79,974 votes, as towards 79,455 votes gained by his predominant rival NR Dhanapalan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
