Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) soldiers have launched a propaganda campaign on temporarily occupied territories (TOT) aimed at Ukrainian children, Ukraine’s National Resistance Center (CNS) reported on Dec.7.
Engaging in what CNS describes as a “war against the civilian population,” Rosgvardia officers are visiting orphanages in the TOT to engage with children. They promote the occupation of Ukraine and coerce the children to write [patriotic] letters. Most of the children are effectively being held captive by the enemy and are unable to communicate with their parents or guardians.
Rosgvardia refers to its criminal activities as “lessons in courage”. Russian propagandists accompany the officers during these “lessons” to exploit the children to promote Russia’s illegal war of aggression.
Russians offer money and employment to bribe TOT residents into creating positive videos about the occupation, CNS reported on Dec. 5.
Russian administrators of the TOT continue Russification efforts among local children, bringing in teachers from Russia for this purpose, NV reported in November.
They received instructions from Moscow to involve more children in programs aimed at altering self-identification, CNS reported on Nov. 23.
They are attempting to reduce the number of students studying in Ukrainian.
Russians destroyed almost all Ukrainian literature on the occupied territories of Donetsk, CNS reported on Nov. 14.
