Police identify alleged suspect in Bradford Run shooting

June 2 – A 19-year-old Kokomo man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after police said he shot a 17-year-old at Bradford Run Apartments.

Cameron Jaquon Craft is facing a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness, a felony level 5, for his alleged role in the incident.

According to a news release from the Kokomo Police Department, officers were dispatched to the apartment complex’s community pool around 3:15 p.m. Thursday in reference to an individual who had been shot.

Upon arrival, authorities located the 17-year-old man with a gunshot wound and he was transported to an area hospital before being sentenced to death at an Indianapolis hospital for further treatment, the statement said.

He is currently listed in stable condition.

After the shooting, according to police, Craft fled to a nearby apartment.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called for assistance, the statement said, and Craft moved out of that apartment after a brief negotiation.

Officers were then able to obtain a search warrant for the apartment, the statement said.

During this search, investigators reportedly found a 9mm handgun and ammunition.

During a subsequent search of the surrounding area, investigators were also able to locate three other abandoned handguns, the statement said.

Police did not say in the statement whether either of those discarded handguns or the handgun found in the apartment was actually used in the shooting.

Craft is currently in the Howard County Jail on $15,000 cash bond, and his first hearing in Howard Superior Court 1 is still pending.
