Kansas City police were asking the public for help to locate an 88-year-old man diagnosed with dementia who was reported missing Thursday afternoon.

Albert Smith was last seen around 3:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of East 63rd Street, according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department. Police said his family is concerned for his well-being.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued a statewide alert for Smith, saying he was out shopping with a family member and walked off.

Smith is described as a Black man, roughly 5-foot-8 and 170 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. He was wearing gray pants, white shoes and a black, buttoned T-shirt.

Authorities were asking anyone who sees Smith to call KCPD at 816-234-5043 or 911 for their nearest law enforcement agency.
