Madonna feels “incredibly grateful” on her road to recovery.
The Queen of Pop, 64, spoke out for the first time since being admitted to intensive care with a bacterial infection on June 24.
“Thank you for your positive energy, your prayers and your words of healing and encouragement. I felt your love,” the singer wrote in an Instagram post on Monday alongside a selfie. “I am on the road to recovery and am incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.”
“My first thought, what I woke up in hospital was my children. My second thought was that I didn’t want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour,” the mother of six – Lourdes, 26 years; Rocco, 22; David, 17; Miséricorde, 17; and twins Estere and Stella, both 10 years old — continued “I also didn’t want to disappoint the people who worked tirelessly with me over the past few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.
While Madonna said the main focus at the moment was her “health and strength”, she assured fans that she would be back on the road as soon as possible. The North American leg of her Party the tour will be postponed. European dates will resume in October, she said of the “current plan”.
“I assure you that I will return with you as soon as possible!” she wrote. “I couldn’t be more grateful for your care and support.”
Emergency hospital stay
Her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, sent shockwaves through Material Girl fans when he released a statement on June 28 revealing that Madonna had developed a “serious bacterial infection” that led to a “stay of several days in intensive care.
He did not specify what type of infection it was, although health experts have speculated it could be sepsis, a condition that occurs when your immune responses react excessively to bacterial infection.
After Oseary’s post, a source told Page Six that Madonna worked 12-hour days before the Party tour, which was scheduled to begin in Vancouver on July 15, and that she was found unconscious before being rushed to hospital. These reports have yet to be confirmed.
Speedy recovery
A day after the news broke, sources confirmed to Yahoo Entertainment that the singer was “recovering” well at home. Some of Madonna’s close friends, including Rosie O’Donnell and Debi Mazar, also reiterated that she was doing well, with Mazar calling her “the strongest girl I know”.
Less than an hour after Madonna’s last post, thousands of replies from fans and friends flooded Material Girl’s comments section.
They included words from Andy Cohen, who wrote “WE LOVE YOU”.
RuPaul’s Drag Race Co-host Michelle Visage also chimed in, noting, “What we care about is… YOU! You take care of yourself and the rest will fall in line. WE LOVE YOU.”
“We love you so much,” singer Diplo wrote, while fashion designer Andrew Christian added, “Take care!”
“Wishing you nothing but love and light for your recovery. Don’t be too hard on yourself mum, your little ones still need you,” added Olympian Amini Fonua . “Listen to your body. Give it time to recover.”
