An Australian official called Donald Trump Jr. a “big baby” in a since-deleted tweet Thursday after Trump’s speaking tour of Australia was postponed.
The former president’s son was due to travel to Australia for a three-lecture tour in July with right-wing British broadcaster Nigel Farage. The tour was postponed after Trump only received his Australian visa a day before his scheduled departure for the country, according to Turning Point Australia, a conservative group promoting the tour.
Turning Point Australia alleged that the timing of the visa was issued was intentional by the Australian government.
“It looks like America isn’t the only country making it difficult for the Trumps,” Turning Point Australia wrote on Facebook.
Australian Home Secretary Clare O’Neil called Trump a “bad loser” on Twitter and criticized him for promoting lies about the results of the 2020 presidential election.
“Now he’s trying to blame the Australian government for his poor ticket sales and canceled tour,” O’Neil wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
“Donald Trump Jr received a visa to come to Australia. It has not been cancelled,” she added. “He’s just a big baby, not very popular.”
The Australian government on Thursday denied playing a role in the postponement of Trump’s speaking tour.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said “Donald Trump Jr.’s visa was processed as normal and like everyone else he had every right to come here,” according to The Associated Press.
“The postponement of his trip is a business for him,” Albanese added.
Farage wrote in a statement on Twitter that the tour is not canceled, only postponed. The British commentator said he would continue to be part of the tour when it is rescheduled as Trump’s “support act”.
“Many say the late visa is actually a form of cancel culture,” Farage wrote. “Well, not quite, as the 6 month visa is now in place – and with dates rescheduled – the tour will be an even bigger success.”
