A timeline of Wednesday’s deadly mass shootings in Lewiston

Oct. 26—WEDNESDAY

6:56 p.m.: Police respond to a report of an active shooter at Just-In-Time Recreation, more commonly referred to as Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley on Mollison Way in Lewiston. According to Maine State Police, the communications center in Auburn receives notification that a man walked into Sparetime Recreation and began shooting. Multiple 911 calls followed.

7:08 p.m.: Multiple calls come into the communications center about a man who entered Schemengees Bar & Grille on Lincoln Street and began shooting.

8:06 p.m.: Police release an image of a suspect holding a rifle at the bowling alley and a photo of a white Subaru with a black bumper, possibly belonging to the suspect. Shortly after, emergency alerts to residents in Auburn and Lewiston advise everyone to shelter-in-place.

8:15 p.m.: Reports of a shooting at the Walmart Distribution Center on Alfred A Plourde Parkway. The reports turn out to be erroneous.

8:20 p.m.: Maine Department of Public Safety announce that Lewiston City Hall is the staging area for police searching for an active shooter in the city.

9:26 p.m.: The Lewiston Police Department receives a call identifying the man in the released photos as Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin.

9:56 p.m.: A vehicle matching an earlier description is found at the Pejepscot Boat Launch on the Androscoggin River in Lisbon. The vehicle is identified as belonging to Robert Card.

11 p.m.: A Walmart spokesperson says the reports of a shooting at the company’s distribution center are untrue.

11:30 p.m.: Commissioner of the Maine Department of Public Safety Michael Sauschuck confirms that Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin is a person of interest in the shootings. Sauschuck refuses to comment on the number of casualties from the evening.

THURSDAY

Early morning hours: Police continue the manhunt for Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin.

After 6 a.m.: Police expand the shelter-in-place order to include Bowdoin.

Just before 11 a.m.: In a press conference, Gov. Janet Mills and law enforcement leaders confirm 18 people have been killed and 13 are injured. Seven people died at the bowling alley and eight at the bar. Three more died at local hospitals.

1:55 p.m.: Residents in northern Sagadahoc and northern Androscoggin counties receive phone alerts that the shelter-in-place order has been extended to their areas. The alerts say they should “make sure your homes and vehicles are secure.”

4:47 p.m.: Multiple gunshots could be heard for several minutes outside a home at 911 Meadow Road in Bowdoin. Law enforcement officers were standing, with long guns drawn, on a structure in a large field next to the home owned by Ryan and Katie Card. No cars were in the driveway.

5:24 p.m.: A neighbor at the Bowdoin home says the house has been vacant for some time, adding that Ryan and Katie Card, the brother and sister-in-law of the suspected shooter, used to live there but have not been there for a while.

5:53 p.m.: The loud bangs heard outside a home on Meadow Road in Bowdoin were not gunshots, according to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. “It’s a tactical operation,” Moss said.
