There will be no fifth season for A dark lady sketch show, Deadline confirmed. HBO’s Emmy-winning comedy series will wrap up with its fourth season, which wrapped in May.
Created, written, executive produced and starring Robin Thede, A dark lady sketch show, according to the logline, featured a core of black women having fun, relatable experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations. Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black and Skye Townsend also starred.

In a statement, HBO described Thede as “a visionary comedic talent”, adding “for four outstanding seasons of A dark lady sketch show we were thrilled to partner with her on this groundbreaking and hilarious series. Robin, alongside Hoorae, Jax Media and the incredible cast and crew, leave an indelible legacy not only in sketches but also in television comedy, and we look forward to continued creative collaboration as part of his agreement with us.
Executive Thede produced with Issa Rae for Hoorae, as well as Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry for 3 Arts Entertainment and Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch for Jax Media.

We hear that HBO and Thede have mutually decided to end the show on the high creative note for Season 4.

Thede will always be busy at HBO. As part of its overall deal, Thede is developing a half-hour comedy series Disengagement.
Critically Acclaimed A dark lady sketch show garnered 13 Emmy nominations and three wins during its run. He also received the TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sketch/Variety Shows out of four nominations, as well as five Black Reel Awards, an HCA Award, and two NAACP Image Awards.
