Two teens were arrested in south Sacramento last week on suspicion of illegally possessing firearms in connection to an assault in May, authorities said.

Police began investigating after receiving a report of an assault with a firearm in the south Sacramento area on May 16, the Sacramento Police Department said in a social media post.

The department’s gang investigations unit began investigating and identified a 15-year-old boy as a suspect, according to the post.

Detectives served a residential search warrant last Thursday related to the case and found an “illegally possessed AR-15 rifle and two handguns,” police said.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested and booked into juvenile detention facility on related charges.
