Emergency management officials confirmed that information to Channel 9, saying it was the result of a “weather event” at a mobile home park.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said it happened in the Cindi Lane and Evening Drive area off of Old Catawba Road. Deputies and first responders went from home to home searching for victims.

Emergency management said multiple homes were damaged. Channel 9′s Dave Faherty could see homes that had been torn apart and families left with nowhere to stay. He spoke to a mom who sheltered in a bathtub with her child.

Faherty could see the tops of trees were twisted in a way that was consistent with tornado damage.

The National Weather Service will survey the area to see if a tornado hit.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
